Power Opt Ins/Out
Aug. 10th, 2017 08:55 amThis is just for every other character's (and player's) comfort here. Ouse Kurosawa has an ability called Glancing. Technically speaking, it is a mind reading ability. She is powerful enough to use it simply by making eye contact with people - which, by default, she doesn't really do, but physical contact is always an option.
The Glancing ability gets more powerful the closer the user and recipient are to death. This doesn't necessarily mean physically speaking (though that is a factor), more... how mentally prepared to die, or desiring death one is. Ouse herself is already almost dead, so she has a very powerful ability even as a trained miko from Mt. Hikami. That leaves the other half of it: your characters!
A weaker Glance might reveal something like a stray thought, a vague image, a current fancy, all short and snippet-like. However, a stronger Glance will likely show a very detailed cutscene-like image of someone's deepest secrets, pains, why they might desire death, etc. This might also be followed by a sense of relief from it, because technically speaking, in Glancing someone, Ouse takes on their pain from it. Doesn't take away their urges to die, but it does help keep regrets from forming to keep a spirit chained to the mortal world.
Either way! You can opt in to this power, even if your character has no strong inclinations toward dying, opt out of this power even if your character has no strong attachments to life, or just hash out some details of what you want her to see or not see here!
By default she will more or less avoid touching or looking into anyone's eyes whenever possible, and even if it should trigger sometimes I won't have it unless I know people are cool with it.
